Class Act

Last year on my birthday, I donned an all pastel look that celebrated my being 20 years old. It was cute and a bit mature; an apt look for someone who had just let go of her teenage years and welcomed adulthood. This year (on February 16), I couldn't be happier to have found a dress that perfectly embodied my being 21. If last year's attire was still a balancing act of being a teen and an adult well this year's was all about wholly embracing adulthood. Thank you to my boyfriend for gifting me this perfect dress for my special day. So here are some photos from my birthday dinner with the special people in my life. :)

La Vie En Rose

I've been listening to jazzy music and French songs a lot this February and one of the songs that got me enamored was Edith Piaf's La Vie En Rose. I fell in love with it even though it was sung in French. The foreign yet cadent words somehow resonated with me. I now fully comprehend why they consider it one of the Romance Languages along with Italian and Portuguese---for all I know they could be talking about a murder and it'd still sound beautiful to me. And apparently, not only did this song occupy my thoughts (for I tried memorizing the lyrics and I am proud to brag say that I have succeeded) but it also influenced my sartorial choices then. Don't you agree that this outfit screams vintage Parisian chic? By the way, my purse and skirt were all vintage since the purse was my mom's and the skirt was thrifted, so I guess I really got the "vintage" part right. Haha.

Code Red

Having worn this outfit reminded me of a phase in fashion that I had back then in 2009-2010 wherein I was very much into monochromatic and B&W looks. I'd don an all-black ensemble and inject a jolt of color, which in my case was always red. My 3rd year prom gown which I posted here during my earlier days of blogging was black and white houndstooth, an unlikely choice if I may say so myself, and complemented it with red lips and hair accessory. I guess this "formula" has always been a part of my "style equation".

Something about this outfit screams preppy-lass-in-the-streets-of-london to me. Think...Alexa Chung. Must be the argyle-like tights, the vintage satchel, beige culottes, and these red floral oxfords. My fave element in this look would have to be my red shoes though. First, I got it real cheap for 197.50 php at Manels during their Anniversary sale where everything is 50% off (btw, the sale is still ongoing and will end on Tuesday so you better make a visit now!). Second, it has replaced my long gone fave red pair (and I can't quite believe that it took me this long to find a new one when clearly, red is my fave color). Third, they're a much modern-looking oxfords that come in a non-traditional color like black, brown, or cream. And lastly, the shiny finish reminds me of Dorothy of Oz's iconic red shoes. Sulit kung sulit! Haha!

Fresh February!

F-stop's back this Feb with a fresh new collection! Here are just some of the stylish pieces that I modeled for Melai! And I must say, the clothes in this collection were sooo fun to shoot! There were all sorts of styles like modern, edgy, retro pop, dainty, vintage glam and so much more. I'm sure you'll find something that will suit your style! My fave looks would have to be the one where I was wearing the red creepers with the pink shorts and the last photo. I rarely wear something like that and I didn't think it'd suit me until I wore it. Ahh so far from my style but so fun to wear! Go check out F-stop now and stay tuned for the release of the collection sometime this Feb! :)

Vintage Vixen

(dress- People are People | shoes-Parisian Jr. | purse-vintage | pearl necklace- The Landmark)
I'm glad I found a friend in Mira--my mom's office-mate's daughter who celebrated her 18th birthday at Rustica over the long weekend--even though I'm older than her. Di naman halata diba? Haha! It was a very nice change to hang with my aunts' children and my titas and titos who were all so funny and makulit, (they were more boisterous than us actually) that it seemed like the event was their party. Haha! I just love it.

Anyway, I dressed up with a theme in mind and that was uhm...20's flapper girl. Yes, I was perfectly aware that I wasn't wearing a flapper dress but the drop-waist and silver applique on my satin-y dress gave a 20's vibe, or so I think it did. So I grabbed my pearls, headband and vintage clutch to complete this vintage look. Et voila! I looked like a modern day 20's girl. (Please agree with me hahaha!)

What's funny about this dress is that it served as a mediator when Mama and I had a squabble prior to the event and we weren't speaking to each other for 2 days. I guess that's the thing when you have a super close relationship with your mom, you joke around, gossip and laugh like you're best friends but you fight like friends as well (or maybe that's just us). Haha! So yeah, it took us 2 days to patch things up (we've had longer fights) and she lent me this 'coz I had nothing to wear that night and just like the sisterhood of the traveling pants, it fit me well. It's actually a blouse on her but on me, it's a dress. And that was how this LBD broke the ice between us. You can see me wearing her clothes here, here and here. After namin mag-bati bongga sa chika si Mama about the clothes that she bought eh. Di kinaya mang-deadma tungkol sa mga pinag-shoshopping nya. Haha! :)

That's it for now!

XO.

Old Rose, Old Soul

(denim button-down-11th of October | floral dress-The Landmark | sandals-Babo | spike necklace-The Ramp | tan bag-Follow Your Heart)
Howdy folks! How's everybody doin'? Forgive me for the lack of updates here on my blog, see classes have already resumed for us and I've been quite busy preparing myself for school. This term, I have some really cool and exciting subjects namely: radio and video production classes (RADIPRO and VPRODUC) and I'm a bit anxious as to how I'll be able to pass these two. Last week was the start of my 6th term in school and so far I'm already liking a few subjects and my lighter class schedule.

Anyhoo, last Friday after attending my PUBLISH class, Meli dragged me with her to Quiapo for a quick fortune telling sesh. At first I was reluctant to go 'coz I really wanted to go home already and I knew that the place would be really crowded as it was the first Friday of the year and it was Quiapo day too but Meli was very persistent so I obliged. Who knew it'd be fun to get sandwiched by dozens of people and brave the intense Manila heat while looking for the manghuhula's stall? Haha! Meli's "hula" was pretty accurate while mine was...hmm, suspicious and far-fetched? Haha! The manghuhula's prediction included (much to my dismay) that I'd get married early (I was told of that already by another manghuhula so...FOR REALZ??? HAHA), I will be successful in my career, I will make it big abroad and stuff like that. I kinda expected her to say that but it was still very fun.

Oh and before I end this post, look at my new vintage finds (spot the oxymoron! Haha!)! I unearthed these inside my mom's old cabinet before the start of this term. There are more inside but I need the assistance of my ate if I'm going keep myself from shrieking every time I pull a piece out of the hanger 'coz a few cockroaches get pulled out of 'em too. Haha! I'm sooo giddy that I got my hands on these great finds! :)

Much love,
Scarlet Aprilxx
