I Want Candy

This cropped sweatshirt had been sitting in my closet for a year. My boyfriend gave this to me as his first monthsary gift to me last July and I only got to wear it now. Mark was getting tampo that maybe I didn't like it saying that by the time I'd finally don it, the world has spouted tons of crop tops already. What do you know, he's damn right. The crop top trend is in its full swing now. This whole time I was just looking for the perfect garments (a specific cut/style to my leather skirt) and accessories (chunky gold chainlink necklace which was not so readily available before) to go with it to complete the image in my head. It's not surprising at all that it takes me months/years to wear an outfit especially if I had envisioned it in a certain way. There is no way for me to just wear it out the first time styled in another look. This outfit from before took me two years to complete (click that link why don't ya). My stubbornness, being idealistic and a perfectionist (throw in a lil bit of OC) show so much through this.

Pink Printed Suit

On this day I was tasked to be the photog for my mom's party once again. It was agreed upon that the guests all wear their favorite colors. Guess what mine is. Haha. Mine's red actually but I was surprised to learn that I didn't own any red clothes so I figured my next fave color would do. It was raining when I wore this out btw so the blazer and pants weren't too stuffy for me. I played with two different prints here but it all worked cohesively because of the same pantones in this look. I was going for a girly and more playful version of a man's suit. So what do you guys think?

La Vie En Rose

I've been listening to jazzy music and French songs a lot this February and one of the songs that got me enamored was Edith Piaf's La Vie En Rose. I fell in love with it even though it was sung in French. The foreign yet cadent words somehow resonated with me. I now fully comprehend why they consider it one of the Romance Languages along with Italian and Portuguese---for all I know they could be talking about a murder and it'd still sound beautiful to me. And apparently, not only did this song occupy my thoughts (for I tried memorizing the lyrics and I am proud to brag say that I have succeeded) but it also influenced my sartorial choices then. Don't you agree that this outfit screams vintage Parisian chic? By the way, my purse and skirt were all vintage since the purse was my mom's and the skirt was thrifted, so I guess I really got the "vintage" part right. Haha.

NYPD Blue

NYPD Blue. Err. Not exactly. I'm not about to go on a covert operation as part of the New York Police --- though I do like to think I might do some good work being part of the fashion police ---Haha! Anyway, an Empire State of Mind was what I had in mind when I put together this look to accompany my boyfriend to the 2nd Anniversary Party of Borough, one of our favorite restaurant/bars in the Metro that, yup, as the name implies, is a tribute to everything New York! Borough prides itself in serving New York comfort food, 24/7. Among my favorites are their grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup and chicken & waffles. But enough about the food, this isn't a food blog after all. Haha!

To party Borough-style on this momentous occasion, I put on a simple bodycon dress in thick black and blue stripes. I've never been to New York I must say. But every time I think of it I think of the towering buildings that cast a shadow on the city's streets set against the blue of the New York skyline. Black and blue would thus be the colors that (at least for me) embody the quintessential Empire State of Mind. What I like about this dress is that it's sleek and straightforward, yet not too simple as it gives me a sense of command and confidence. Also, I like wearing stripes as it creates an optical illusion. Stripes on a bodycon dress makes it appear that there are more curves than what I actually have. Haha! What I also like about this dress is that it's versatile in that it can be used as a sweater replacement. Its 3/4 sleeves also prove that not all night out dresses need to be about revealing skin. This one works just as well even though I'm somewhat covered up!

To finish off this look and throw in a dash of more girly colors, I wore my bright orange suede pumps. My dress made use of manly colors so I thought of throwing these pumps into the mix that made the look truly my own. And to my boyfriend's approval, he saw the combination of black, blue, and orange as very New York --- the New York Knicks for that matter, his favorite NBA team. Guess I worked it all out in this one!

Chase The Sun

I literally had to chase the sun to be able to get good lighting for these photos. Well, not literally but you get the picture! The sun was about to set in a few hours so I dragged my good friend Bea to immediately take these shots. My friends were laughing at me because I was looking up at the sky with a very concerned look on my face and was telling them, "yung araw, yung araw!". I cannot emphasize enough how important good lighting is. Haha! So anyway, here's another print-on-print outfit for ya! I wore these shorts here and used it for a more subtle type of print-on-print look. This time, I went real colorful with it and paired it with florals (and polka dots still)! It made sense for me to pair it with this blouse because of the same fuchsia pink accents. So what do you think?

Thank you to Bea for taking these photos for me!

Geometry

And I'm backkk! If the malware problem of my blog hadn't been fixed by now, I swear I'd get blogging withdrawal/anxiety. I wonder if you guys get that too? Anyway, a million thanks to my hero-slash-IT-expert-slash-tutor Mark for helping me with this!

Now onto the look! This was my outfit when we went out to celebrate Father's Day at Shangri La Chinese Resto. The top and shorts seemed like they were meant for each other, yeah? Decided to go all matchy-matchy on this one for that quirky-fun look. If you're scared to try out the print-on-print look, then I have two tips for you (not that I'm an expert on this or anything). 1) Polka and stripes are a match made in heaven. There's just something about combining straight hard lines with soft round curves like circles that makes it geometrically pleasing to the eyes (woah, Geometry! Haha!). But seriously, if you're still not too "out there" in trying out this trend then you should definitely go for this more subtle print combo. 2) Tone it down so your outfit won't look too busy. In my case, I opted to wear a top with a simple cut (t-shirt) and plain front design. All of the print action was happening at the back. Then I used black accents and stuck to two color schemes which was black and fuchsia.

Hope that helps! :)

Little Girl Blue

Here's my second outfit worn on the last day of the Hot Air Balloon Festival! I built my outfits around the boater hat and this pair of swallow printed flats. I might've repeated wearing them for two consecutive days but at least I had fun styling them in two different ways. Whew, I think I abused the word "two" in that sentence. Haha!

Anyway, how did you guys spend Valentines? Mine was a little...blue. I just spent my V-day in front of a computer screen reading Detective Conan online and dressing up my Coco Girl on Facebook. I hope I don't do the exact same thing on my "B-day" this coming Thursday (although I don't really mind reading DC). Haha! Oh damn...I'm finally hitting the big 2-0. Why does time fly faster once you turned 18??? Hahaha Okay, I'm rambling so I better end this post now. :)

Up, Up And Awaaay!

The 3 S': Scallops, stripes and swallows. And if you throw in the satchel there'd be 4. But you know, I just made that up. Haha! Who knew that putting all these elements together could make for a quirky, fun and cute ensemble? Perfect for the 17th Hot Air Balloon Fiesta helt at Clarkfield, Clarckzone, Pampanga last week! The event reminded me of Coachella---what with the tents, the people sitting idly on the grassy ground, food and souvenir vendors scattered all over the place and the laidback ambiance---that I decided to dress up like I was going to the event lang but of course I also incorporated a little bit of the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta into my outfit by wearing the colorful striped blouse. That way, people would mistake me for a balloon! Haha! The outfit was also a great pick me-upper since I was a lil bit miserable and couldn't enjoy the experience to the fullest 'coz I had the flu. It was so bad that I used up all the tissue that we brought and the skin on my nose was red and peeling. Eww not a pretty sight, I tell you. Haha! But that didn't stop me from enjoying the lil vacay so I'm really glad that we went.
