Pink Printed Suit

On this day I was tasked to be the photog for my mom's party once again. It was agreed upon that the guests all wear their favorite colors. Guess what mine is. Haha. Mine's red actually but I was surprised to learn that I didn't own any red clothes so I figured my next fave color would do. It was raining when I wore this out btw so the blazer and pants weren't too stuffy for me. I played with two different prints here but it all worked cohesively because of the same pantones in this look. I was going for a girly and more playful version of a man's suit. So what do you guys think?

A Heart Full of Love

This has got to be the most meaningful Valentine's that has happened to me yet. To begin with, this was the first time I had a real Valentine. Being given flowers for the first time felt so new and somewhat surreal to me. It was, admittedly, a foreign experience to me and my initial reaction was weird and funny to the people in my home who saw me cry and laugh upon opening the box, seeing the flowers, and reading the card. *laughs* Next, on Valentine's Day itself, my big sis and I took our mom out on a fail surprise dinner date at Casa Renato, a Mediterranean hole-in-the-wall resto, just outside our village here in West Fairview. My mom didn't believe us at first that we were gonna take her out and was even skeptical that we even had money to spend (haha!) but the night went extremely well and we all went home with satisfied tummies and hearts full of love (Ha! Les Mis reference yo!).

And being the cheeseball that I truly am, I wore a sickeningly sweet and saccharine outfit that night. Pink, frilly, lace-y, with pearls to match---how girly can I get, right? :)

Flower Power

Floral was the theme of the night on Day 2 of PFW. My mom and I went out of our rooms that night feeling pleasantly surprised to find both of us clad in the print. I love it whenever I'm "terno" with Mama. Recently, I've been wearing matching outfits with a special someone too! We don't even talk about it. I get secretly giddy whenever that happens. It's like a simple and subtle way of showing the world that this person and I are on the same page or at least have the same taste in fashion. I hope that makes sense. Haha!

The Ezra Santos collection was one of my faves btw. It showcased his impeccable taste, masterful beadwork, sophistication, excellent tailoring and understanding of a woman's body. I've nothing but praises for his art! The moment his first garment went down the runway, we were immediately entranced and he kept us hooked 'til the last piece! My mom and I were just gaping and I kept saying to her, "ang gandaaa" while clutching her arm for support. Yes, I was that IN LOVE with his pieces. It transported me to a time when I used to watch runway shows (of Versace, Dolce and Gabbana, CK, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera etc.) on FashionTv as a child. I remember feeling this very strong desire and passion of becoming a designer one day every-freakin-time I watch these shows. Anyway, I might do a post on Ezra's collection soon just so I can show you what I saw that night and because I want everyone who reads this blog to appreciate his talent too. :)

Fairy Princess

Remember the gown/s that I designed for my friend's debut? Well, she actually used them and I'm extremely flattered and kilig (giddy) that she trusted me enough to design her gowns (though I lay no claim over the actual sewing and all)! I feel like a proud mama. Haha!
If only I knew how to work the sewing machine, I would've followed-through my own designs. Now I am more determined to push through with my decision to take up a fashion design course after college I guess.

A little anecdote if you don't mind, I remember oh so vividly how I used to cut up design sketches (most of 'em were bridal gown sketches) from my mom's magazines namely: MOD and Woman Today (haha wala pa yatang Preview nun) and paste them in this little album of mine and leaf through 'em as I marvel at the beautiful sketches. That was when I knew that I wanted to be a fashion designer someday. Super nakaka-sad lang when I think about it and realize that back then my future was certain--that I knew what I wanted to be and I was pretty sure about it--and now it's nothing but a far-off dream since I'm taking up a different course which makes me really torn and more confused than ever. That's why I'm so glad when opportunities like this comes my way. I feel like I'm somehow much closer to that dream of mine. Raiza looked sooo pretty (as always) and glowing I couldn't be happier!:)
And here's the other fairy dress that I designed for her. Apparently she chose the one on the left with the peek-a-boo, see-through bodice and I'm so happy that she did. That was my choice too. :)
Before I end this post, I would like to share one last story about a prophecy that Raiza did on our Senior prom. A few days before the actual prom, Raiza, being the editor-in-chief of our school newspaper, asked all the seniors to write their most outrageous "dream profession" on paper. Well, back then I knew I was going to study in La Salle majoring in Communication Arts and so I wrote "Fashion designer" on that little piece of paper. During the prophecy reading, Raiza mentioned all of our "dream professions"--one of our batchmates even wrote President of the Philippines (hahaha!). Then it was my turn. Reading her "predictions", Raiza said, "I was wearing a gown especially made by the skillful hands of Jonessa Mendoza (along with two more batchmates who also wrote fashion designer) who already have her own clothes store which branched in hundreds of countries worldwide." Hahaha bongga! A girl can dream, right? Looking back, I can't help but be weirded out that I had just designed a gown (2 gowns actually) for Raiza! Coincidence? Maybe. :)

P.S. Again, thank you Raiza dear for believing in me! I'm so happy that you liked them and that they somehow contributed to your happiness on your special day!

Pink, Girly Things, and Macarons

(lace blouse- Forever21 | shorts- The Second Shop | cameo necklace- Forever21 | shoes- Taiwan)
Late post is late. These photos were taken last weekend. Funny how the week went by with a theme hence this very girly post.

Photos:

*Sweet to look at and sweet to the taste French Macarons (they're not from Laduree though so I guess that doesn't make them French? Haha!). I love them, especially the pink ones (mainly 'coz of the irresistible pink hue and the cake ganache in between).
*My little sister dressed in a pink tutu! So adorable. :">
*My outfit last Saturday. (Forever21 lace blouse, The Second Shop shorts, Forever21 cameo necklace, Brogues from Taiwan)
*Newly acquired Etude House Pink Lippy! Such a steal. Its color is close to MAC's Pink Nouveau.

Hmm, I'm surprisingly not verbose (here on the blog) today.

Much Love,
Scarlet Aprilxx
