Black Track

I used to say "I can't wait to be thirty and dress all fancy and powerful" when I was younger. I still do by the way. Then I realized, why wait to reach that age when I can do it now. That's what's so fun about fashion anyway; I can take on different personas through different styles. I never saw myself being mixed up in the corporate world as I always envisioned myself as a designer, briefly as part of the media and entertainment industry. Therefore I always thought that I wouldn't get as much chance to dress in stiff office wear. The one time I had an opportunity to do so, my office (which was situated in bustling Makati btw) wasn't too strict and formal with the dress code. To get a vivid image of what I am trying to convey here's an example of what I wore there. Now though, I'm much more game and open to dressing like this even though I'm not a celebrity, a rich man's wife, heiress, an entrepreneur, heck not even as a CEO of an imaginary company! I can pretend to be any of those in my head though, right? My elder sister and cousin both remarked how classy I looked in this outfit and how it reminded them of Kim Kardashian. At least I looked like one of the things I mentioned above and passed as a celebrity in this outfit. Do you see it too? Haha!

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

I was really surprised with Unica Hija's collection for fashion week this year. The brand has been around long enough for me to know that its style is for the ultimate girly-girl. But their collection wasn't just about frills, lace, and ruffles; they showed us that they also do other looks but still manage to stay true to their signature style. In fact, they had 40's inspired dresses with matching bonnets, 50's shape-enhancing peplums, 60's mod shift dresses, corporate wear that wasn't boring at all, preppy blouses that tickled my fancy, trendy tribal printed dresses (worn by Charo Ronquillo) and of course feminine florals. My personal favorite? Charo Ronquillo's lace and aztec printed dress. How clever of them to use the tribal print fabric as a lining for the lace dress! This is the perfect example of merging together trendy and classic pieces. The dress is lace (classic and girly), the lining is in this year's sought-after print (tribal), the cut is mullet type which again makes it feel more "now". I think it embodies Unica perfectly! See what I mean? :)

Tonight We Are Young

 Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

I mentioned on my previous post that last Saturday I had at least two outfit changes because in the morning we had a family event and in the afternoon I had to meet up with my grade school friends at Taguig. It was literally a looong day for me. Anyway, here's outfit number two! A very sparkly and loud look for a night out with ze friends! My guy friends wouldn't stop teasing me about this look btw. Kin-Yen, would squint his eyes and pretend to be blinded by the brightness of my sequined top! Boys. *shakes head* Haha!

Ever since our dear friend Pam left the Philippines for Australia, she visits the country at least once a year to bond with us here. Two years ago, she hosted one of the most memorable sleepovers we have ever had at the Holiday Inn which you can read here. Hihi. This year though, no more sleepovers for us because we literally stayed up all night! We stuffed ourselves with yummeh food at Mercato then partied the night away at Amber then Jill's at The Fort Strip. Her stay this time was shorter but it was still fun 'coz Rachelle, another Balikbayan friend of ours, was with us! Somehow, Pam brought out Rachelle's suppressed British accent because she finally had someone to talk to in straight English! Ang asar namin sa kanila: "Oh nag-uusap na naman yung dalawang foreigners" hahaha!

So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home tonight

Scar and Perri

"Twice in her life she had mistaken something else for it; it was like seeing somebody in the street who you think is a friend, you whistle and wave and run after him, and it is not only not the friend, but not even very like him. A few minutes later the real friend appears in view, and then you can't imagine how you ever mistook that other person for him. She was now looking upon the authentic face of love, and she knew it, but it frightened her. That it should come so casually, so much by a series of accidents, was frightening."
~ Nancy Mitford, The Pursuit of Love

On Waterloo Bridge, where we said our goodbyes,
The weather conditions bring tears to my eyes.
I wipe them away with a black woolly glove
And try not to notice I've fallen in love."
~ Wendy Cope, After the Lunch

The poem and excerpt found above are just lovely, noh? First encountered them last Thursday night while watching The Delicious Miss Dahl, a new cooking show, on The Lifestyle Network (originally aired on BBC2). The theme of that episode was romance and Sophie Dahl read those in between the actual cooking parts. I loved it. It was a lovely episode. The show had that air of nostalgia, romance and a vintage/old hollywood/so bloody English feel that I really like. Haha! If you must know, I love watching baking/cooking shows and my current faves are Everyday Italian, Barefoot Contessa, At Home with Giada and now this. I'm far from becoming a domestic goddess but these past few weeks I've been doing a lot of cooking and simple baking. I've run out of new books to read so I resorted to playing the piano and baking/cooking to keep me sane and stress-free. I'm a worry-er and very neurotic you see so doing all these are very important if I want the skin on my fingers to stay intact and not bleeding (I fiddle restlessly and pick on my thumbs' skin when I'm nervous w/c is most of the time, unfortunately).

Anyway, I love outfits like this. Preppy, androgynous, monochromatic and still feminine. This look was actually inspired by this photo on my tumblr (follow me btw!). When my mom saw me wearing this she said I looked like I was ready to traipse down the streets of London. And that's exactly what I felt like doing in this and when I saw that photo.

PS. Scar is short for Scarlet April (I'd like to think of her as my alter-ego) and Perri is short for Perriwether. If dear Perri is actually reading this...well, Scar misses and remembers you. Just thought their names went well with today's theme. :)
