The Uncanny Valley

Here are the rest of the photos that I took for my photography portfolio!

The Concept/inspiration:

Inspired by Masahiro Mori's theory named the Uncanny Valley, the theory/hypothesis states that "when robots and other facsimiles of humans look and act almost like actual humans, it causes a response of revulsion among human observers".

I first got inspired by this after watching an episode of Criminal Minds 5 which is now my fave episode of the series to date. I was so creeped out after watching the episode that it got me so interested in the theory of Mori as well!
(Creepy right? There was no blood or gruesome-ness involved in the episode but it most definitely sent chills down my spine when me and my sis watched it)

As much as I'd like to name it "Living Doll" or "Life-size Barbie", thought I'd go for a fancier and more intellectual-sounding name hence the title "The Uncanny Valley". Plus, this also serves as a tribute to my fave episode of CM5. :)

Hope you guys liked it! Outfit post coming up on the blog real soon!

Much Love,

Friday and Sunday Shots

Hello everyone! Hope you like my new header. I drew it myself and then edited it. Funny thing about it is that I used A LOT of colors for that drawing but then I decided to turn it into black and white 'coz you won't get to see the title of my blog against all the colors in the background. Sheesh. Wasted effort. Haha!

I'm just taking a break from doing my papers as you know that it is my finals week this coming week. Tonight I'm just going to post pictures of what has happened to me lately. These are photos that were taken today and on Friday.

Friday:

After our INTBROD a.k.a Introduction to Broadcasting class, my HUMAART (art appreciation class) blockmates and I went to Dianne's place in Makati to shoot a music video for our project.

I chose to wear something simple and comfortable that day 'coz I knew there were a lot of things that I had to do that day. I was wearing a black cardi from Babo, black tank from Landmark, leopard leggings from So! FAB, cute studded necklace from Pop Culture and the yellow purse was actually my friend's (thanks Meli!). I just thought it went well with my all-black ensemble so I decided to use it for this shoot. I am so loving yellow purses lately. They add such a nice punch of color and contrast to an outfit. :)

We had to climb up and down these stairs that day. Why so cruel, Dianne's house??? Whyyy?! Haha! :D

Our music video wasn't really scary or anything. The ketchup (we wanted to use pig's blood but according to Dianne's housekeeper, it was not available anymore during the afternoon so we just settled with using ketchup combined with soy sauce as an alternative. Hee) on Dianne's body urged us to take these "scary" shots.

Today:

For my INTFILM (Intro to Film) class, I had to interview local actress Glaiza De Castro for my final paper. She was really nice and she answered my questions really well. She was actually very insightful and humble. Love that about her. :)

Just a few more days 'til this hellish week ends. Fingers crossed that I finish my papers on time! Goodnight everyone and oh hello to my new followers! Thank you so much for appreciating my blog and thanks for the lovely comments too! :)

Torn Between Two Passions

Just got home from school 'coz I only had one class today which was HUMAART a.k.a. Art Appreciation class, which explains why I'm home early and blogging. Today's little discussion in class was like an epiphany for me. We were tasked to conduct a photoshoot and come up with self-portraits then discuss our self-portraits in class. The theme of our "group gallery" was "Passion". The moment I learned that that was our group's theme, only one thought sprang into mind and yes, it was Fashion (surprise, surprise!). It was a no-brainer. I didn't even have to search far and wide and deep into the walls of my heart 'coz I knew full well that Fashion is my passion. What proved to be an epiphany for me was what my professor said about passion this morning. What she said struck me in the most positive of ways because as I've mentioned in one of my posts, I've been feeling a bit depressed and have cried over Fashion a few nights ago 'coz I felt like I was betraying my first love by pursuing a different course and yet feeling inadequate in both of these fields 'coz I don't seem to get full fulfillment from the two because maybe I just need to focus on one. I know it sounds crazy to cry over this seemingly petty dilemma of mine (I'm weak like that) but try to put yourself in my "scarlet red" shoes and you'll know how depressing this feels. But going back to what my prof said, she said that passion is suffering. It is something which brings us happiness but at the same time, it causes us pain. These two lines reassured me that it was okay to cry and hurt and be confused about it because it just confirms that I am indeed very passionate about Fashion. I mean, who cries about Fashion during random nights wherein you suddenly think about your life and what you're doing with it which leads you to re-evaluate things? Oh I do! Oh alright, could be anyone who's passionate about it or John Galliano perhaps? Haha! The thing is, today's discussion helped me by making me realize that it was normal to feel this way and that I shouldn't punish myself for feeling this way. And that, I think, was a good lesson. :)

On a side note, heads up for an outfit post by tomorrow (hopefully)! I'm going to watch INCEPTION again (but I'm not complaining!), with my girlfriends this afternoon. :) Oh and before I go, I wanna thank you guys so much for leaving me some lovely comments on my posts and even for just dropping by. i really appreciate it. Okay, bye for now! :)

Love,
