Quirky 50's

Quite a quirky look for a comeback post don't you think? That is if you've even noticed that I haven't blogged for about 2 months. Even this look, I'm afraid to say, is a backlog. Still better than nothing, right? The direction I was heading for this was reminiscent of the quirky 50's laundry/resort wear look, made modern by itty-bitty distressed denim shorts and a contemporary print.

Of course, such an outfit required an equally fun occasion to wear this to. A mini vacation with my boyfriend seemed perfect for this. More specifically, in time for Labor Day weekend. Man, this just shows how old this post is though! Haha. No matter. Every outfit I post here is like an entry to a diary anyway.

The Little White Dress

The LBD is indeed an essential in every girl's closet but there's also the LWD which I think is given little appreciation. After all, wearing white has proven to be quite challenging to put on while managing to look pristine the whole day. Nevertheless, it's just as important and effortlessly stylish as its black counterpart.

Emerald City

Dressing in theme for much awaited movies and stage plays is so fun and exciting for me. This is one of the few times I get to expose my geekery for something and use fashion to show it. Last time I did was for Harry Potter, I think. The event for this one was Wicked the musical staged at the CCP in Manila which offered me this great backdrop for this outfit. Quite ironic to shoot this look near the water since the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, fears water as it's the cause of her doom. But that bit of weird coincidence was a fun inside joke in my head.

It was very nice to see that a lot of people also dressed in theme. What was real funny for me though was noticing a bunch of guys wearing pea green shirts who were smiling and looking amused at my green skirt as I lined up for the entrance. I guess they found a fellow geek in me haha. My outfit was actually inspired by Elphie's look when they went to Emerald City. My bowler hat served as the Witch's black pointy hat, spherical sunglasses that every Ozians wore at the city, black crop top to signify her black frock and of course my skirt that matched her green-colored skin!

My boyfriend even joked how I could've won best costume of the day if there was indeed one. Haha. #commitment

Golden Tiger

I just had to post at least one look donning a sweater for the holidays. It might not be as noticeably chilly now than the past couple of years but there's something about a snug wool-y pullover that just completes the yuletide season. They didn't call it sweater weather for no reason, right?

Color

Before the year ends let me post a look that in my opinion is perfect for all the festivities happening around us now. Quite frankly I didn't have Christmas in mind when I put together this look. My inspirations though were nothing short of fun and color that's for sure. Upon picking up this skirt, an onslaught of vivid images of anything Latin America coursed through my mind. Cuban lady dancers wearing ruffle-y rich-colored skirts and headwraps. Chunky gold jewelries that clinked and clanked. Fruit baskets and headdresses. The feathered costumes found at the Carnaval in Rio. Of course, the resulting outfit wasn't a literal and direct translation. I subdued all the excitement by pairing the skirt with black and finished it off with gold accents. As you might have observed I am quite cerebral when it comes to dressing up. Nothing quite compares to the thrill of interpreting inspiration through fashion for me. It's like having an inside joke for myself. :)

Junk to Funk

For my first post for April I bring you an outfit post that is quite different from my usual. Say hello to my recyclable ootd! Yes folks this dress was made out of corn husks and sprinkled with broken plastic CDs. This was for a quasi-fashion show at my mom's office wherein all the daughters of selected officers were to model these recycled garments.
Here's Alex with her place mat and tablecloth dress. In my opinion, these were the easiest materials to work with since it's already cloth and the plastic mat wouldn't be too fragile to be made out as a dress; the challenge in this though is that with the wrong execution this dress could've turned out tacky and kitschy what with the prints and all. But because it had an elegant and flattering silhouette (sweetheart neckline and cinched waist) plus the proudly Pinoy Terno inspired sleeve, this dress turned out classy and sweet!
Now we have Tin and her magazine dress. What I like about this is the different textures in this outfit. There were pleats, weaves and origami-inspired folds in the bodice.
These two were made out of rice and flour sacks. Sacks have prints that are very distinct and distracting so it was nice that there were touches of abaca ropes and walis in these dresses that diverted the audience's attention from the prints.
What an innovative start to my April I must say. At first I was reluctant to entertain my mom's request but looking back, it was nice to have seen so many creative visions in this show. And because I'm taking fashion design classes this coming May, I guess this also served as as a warm up for me.

Spotted

And I'm backkk! Oh how I missed blogging! So many things have happened since I blogged last. One of them is getting a job! And this, my dear readers, is one of my outfits that I wore to work. The office is located in the heart of busy and bustling Makati and even though the city has such a stern and stiff environment, my office environment wasn't stiff and too corporate at all which allowed me to be more playful with my sartorial choices.

I rarely wear t-shirts anymore outside my home so this was a nice change for me. I just find it too simple and casual for my taste but there was a point in my life (3rd year HS) when all I'd wear were shirts, jeans, and chucks! This shirt however, is quite different since it has sheer sleeves. Wore it with bright blue pants that my boyfriend got me during his most recent trip to the states. He got me a lot of blue things and it's nice 'coz I wouldn't normally pick that for myself. :)

So what do you guys think?

It's Been A Year!

I can't believe my blog just turned 1 yesterday, March 21, 2011, and that I totally forgot about it! Just taking a quick break from doing my paper to post this (not even FB-ing 'coz I'm focusing on these damn papers)! Wow it still feels a bit surreal. It's been a year of blogging, a year of posting outfits and a year of documenting my style. Join me as I take a trip down fashion memory lane on this post starting from my early blogging days to more recent outfit posts. :)

This post is definitely picture-heavy, you have been warned. :))
Looking at these photos, I can't help but notice that I don't seem to have one style/look only. But I guess, that's what I like about not having a particular look, I can go from being a girly-girl in flouncy skirts to a rocker chick in leather vests and ripped tights! And that's why Fashion is so much fun. It's like playing pretend and dress-up everyday.
My golly, it is true when they say that time flies when you're enjoying yourself, I didn't even feel that a year has passed and my blog is now a year old! My blog has definitely come to mean so much to me. Blogging and reading your posts have become very therapeutic for me whenever I'm having a rough day or when I feel lost, helpless, burnt out, and uninspired. Through blogging, I get to reconnect with my first love which is Fashion. But of course, this experience wouldn't be as fun and as fulfilling if it weren't for you guys, my lovely readers, who encourage me to continue blogging and to have a style that is my own. Thank you for sharing this experience with me everyone! Here's to more years in the blogosphere of Fashion! I love you all so much! Here's a virtual hug as well! *huuuuuuug*
